    Default Ore Car

I wasn't sure that this image worked, with the chain link fence in the foreground. So, I'm posting it for feedback. The house was a cute but not photogenic vinyl sided cottage. To make it a bit more interesting as a background element, I used NIK's FLUX, sparingly for a grungy effect. Still not happy with it, I tried darkening it........that took me to NIK's Low Key filter to reduce the lighting in the entire image. I really love working with that filter, but only certain images work well with it.
The rest was shadow work, with the usual shadow relief tools. All in all, I like it better than I did, but would like feedback on that fence as an enhancer or detractor.
I've gotten used to it being there, but fresh eyes always help. Credit, where credit is due..........Thanks to Hillary, for showing that the "dark side" can work so well.
    Hope you like it...........

    Hey Jay,
Well, I like "dark" so this works for me although I might go a touch brighter. In the field, perhaps a step right to get the front wheel in may have been preferable as it would have put the post more in one of the ROT positions.....but I think that is a minor point in the overall image. This has a very strong mood to it, so it will play to people differently.......all in all I thin kit works and a minor brightness tweak will make it work for my tastes.

    Hi Jay,
I like the overall image and how you processed it. I love the contrast of the texture & rust against the annual flowers. The soft orton like effect that you have created is very pleasing to me as is the lighting. I don't think the fence detracts. I view it as a framing element in the image. My only wish and don't know if it was possible for you, would have been to step a bit more to the right and bit further back in order to place the center post of the fence a bit more to the left and not block the left wheel?. I also would have like to have seen the bottom of the post included as well. Minor things in the big scheme. As I said in the beginning I do like the overall image very much and think you did a great job. Just offering my two cents for what it's worth. BTW I am loving all of your recent post and look forward to seeing more.

Hi Jay, good to hear from you again! I like this image...I think the fence actually ADDS to the composition..the post coming up through the image, drawing your eye to the center...the "Y" created inviting your eye to branch out...the chain link details and depth and additional "invitation" to the image at the bottom of the frame. I agree with Roman...I think this might be a stronger image if it was a 1/2 stop or so brighter, opening up more of the detail in the foreground in front of the house and in the siding itself, as well as playing more to the color of the ore car...all in all, another in a series of outstanding images from you. Take care!

Roman, That may have been why I was having trouble with this one.......Yes, I totally missed it........the fence post is too centered, and I blew the left wheel. I think I was focusing on the view of the cottage I wanted....oh well!  I will lighten it up a bit, just to take a look. Thanks........I just may go back and take another whack at it!
Nancy, I agree......It would have been better to have the fence "grounded". Honestly, this composition was a stretch for me, and I love the feedback and know that I will "see it" better next time. I do have an alternative shot with the bottom of the post, I will check that out again. Thanks for your feedback, and for your very kind words.

John, Thanks........here is a RP a bit brighter........I may over saturated the cart, though.

The repost looks great! But I also liked the OP. Don't mind the fence either.

Jay, I like the repost. It brightened up the light in the window also which I like.

Jay...The fence doesn't bother me...in fact i rather like it! I like the original post for its dark tones and feel the coal car in the repost is a bit too bright for my tastes. if this were mine , I would keep the original dark background and go with some intermediate brightness for the actual coal car

Jay, I'm late to this post but I like the repost , maybe somewhere in between for me on the coal car. Great eye for this one and your processing work is great.

Jay, I agree with Denise...I think the repost is wonderful, just somewhere mid-way between the OP and the repost for me...looking forward to seeing more from you!

Love the effect and the look. I like the lighter repost. Only bummer for me is the chain link fence, esp. the upside down V-frame at the bottom. Not much that you could have done about the fence..... As I have said before, you have a good eye for image design.

Art, Thanks. I can picture this without the fence, so easily. I may try to clone it out sometime, but rebuilding the wheel will be a trip. I can surely get rid of the triangle. Good thought.
