    Default Cubs with Mom

Just returned from my 2 week Tanzania tour and have a ton of images to go through. Hurricane Irene pushed my return back to late yesterday so a bit tired but it was a fantastic trip! The river crossing were a dream for me but I will get to them shortly I hope!
Canon 1D mark lll with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 800mm on bean bag at f7.1 and 1/250 sec and ISO 1600 on bright overcast day. Slight crop. Saved at 73 quality.
Have at it boys and girls!

Roman - welcome back. Sweet interaction with nice soft colors and bg. Feels a little tight to me (particularly below and to the right) and other nit would be that I wish they were looking up a bit but we can't control that. Looking forward to seeing more from your trip.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Roman, glad that you had a great trip and even better that you will have lots of photos to share with us.

I like the way the cubs are posed in this image but would have wished for a little more head lift from the lioness. However, there is something very odd happening with the eyes and I wonder if it is a combination of the long telephoto lens (as opposed to a fixed focal length quality) with some over sharpening. Perhaps the 1/250 was a bit slow in this situation?

I hope you got some night landscapes, I'll have to keep an eye on the landscape forum just in case as I want to try some on my upcoming trip. Reminds me, must get your guide.

Agree with others regarding head/eye angle, I want to know what they are looking at.

Love the color and interaction. Maybe a little more room on the bottom.

I like the behavior you captured in this, but it feels a tad tight all the way around to me.

Lovely setting here Roman, agree on the tight space and would benefit on some more room all round if you have it, the eyes appear to have been lightened a tad too much here?

Nice moment, could look great in a posterized version. IQ has suffered (sharpness as well), the eyes do have a brightness issue.

Thanks all! Steve Kaluski warned me about posting before I rested! Agree I cropped too tight and over did the eye.......so will rework it. Hopefully I will get to it later today or tomorrow.

That would have been the two things I would have mentioned.

    Welcome back Roman.

Thanks for gracing our forum with some of your images, Roman! Don't let the flurry of critique keep you from posting some more .
I agree on the eyes and to me the cubs do look a tad soft, and my guess would be motion blur or camera shake, but you would know how mobile they were and if 1/250 was fast enough?
Even the most steady hand can find 1/250 on 800mm(x1.3FOVC) a bit tricky

Hey Roman, good looking mommy, and I like the mischievious cub resting on her back. I learnt on my recent trip that if the lions still have pink on their noses, as this lioness has, they are not fully mature.

No excuses on the next one Roman.

Eyes noted but I do like the pano crop, the stacking of the cubs on center mom, and the different head angles and eye contact of the three.
