September Theme: Shorebirds: Individuals in molt and fresh juveniles.
This time of year is always an exciting one for the "Fall" shorebirds. The best thing about it too is that we get to observe nice studies in plumage. The molts, and fresh juvie plumages are always interesting to look at and this would be a good opportunity to showcase those fro this month's theme. Hopefully this theme will be very educational in shorebird ID
As always, when posting an image specifically for the theme you can choose the "theme" prefix from the drop-down menu located just above the "title" space.
As an example, here is a White-rumped Sandpiper in prebasic molt...
The theme is getting good play!
On the bird, last October? Or November?

This bird was photographed on October 14th, 2007. I have high hopes in seeing this species this year for the first time since then as the water level along the Ottawa River hasn't been this low at this time of year since that time (lots of nice exposed mudflats).
Good luck. As with juvie Dunlins it is rare to find one without any molt to first winter. A fresh juvie WRSA is a beauty. I have lousy film images from 25 years ago....

There were dozens of juvenile sandpipers in the cove in front of our house in Kennebunk Maine this afternoon. This one of many semipalmated sandpipers.
Good one Ken. Love the raised foot and the almost perfect REFL.
