    Default Butterfly in the Breezeway

If you've ever been to a butterfly festival at a botanical garden then you know how they love to pack a ton of flowers and colors into a very tiny space. This image was taken in what they call "The Breezeway" which is a long outdoor tent made of netting. The colors were so overpowering to me that I decided to tone down all the ones in the BG and let the butterfly stay as fully saturated as he was.

I added a glamour glow preset in Color Efex and then a vignette blur using their whitest / lightest setting. I tweaked the contrast and sharpened only the butterfly, leaving the rest of the image soft and blurred.

Julie, another very well processed image. I like that you made the decision to bring focus to this image by selectively toning down BG colors; wonderful, dream-like quality created with the glow and vignette...nice diagonal lines drawing your eye through the composition...I would have loved to have been able to see the full wing, but there' not much you could have done about that. You have a real knack for using muted colors/vignettes/blurs and tone to lead the eye through the composition and to keep the attention of the viewer where it needs to be without being heavy-handed...I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Hi Jules, I'm liking everything about this image except the light vignette. To me it seems distracting, as the eye tends to follow the light. I do like the colors and composition and the busy activity of the monarch. I love butterflies and have recently started getting some shots of them. Very pretty!

Julie, I like the overall look to the image. The soft tones in the back ground are appealing and go well with the colors of the BF. I might tone down the foreground diagonal line, it seems distracting to me. Nice work Jules!

Very nice image and application, Jules.

Have to get back to our neighborhood butterfly house!

Like the over all feel of this. Would make a great card photo.

Hi Jules, the softness in the backround and sharp flowers make for a nice contrast. I like the perch on a diagonal and only wish the foreground leaf was not blocking the butterflies body...

The brightness of the butterfly and flowers, and the muted colors of the background work beautifully to create an airy, cheery image. Selective sharpening causes my eye to go straight to the butterfly, and then the flowers. Beautiful composition and lines.

I like the composition and the softness of the background with the butterfly's sharpness. Well done!

I like everything about this image, especially the soft feel. Very Pretty. I do, however, agree with Denise's comment about the foreground horizontal line. I wish it were not quite so prominent.
    Very nice work.
