    Default Having fun with iphones

I went to a photo exhibition last week which had 12 photographers showing their work. I was surprised to see that about half of them had exhibits compiled solely of images from their iphones. These are all professional photographers, some using medium format digital and some still using large format film. Obviously they were having some fun and the images were quite beautiful although kept small. As I had been experimenting with my iphone also, I found this quite interesting.

Last weekend I was interstate for a photography workshop and went without my cameras so was forced to use my phone. I had loads of fun and although I didn't capture anything outstanding, thought I would share some of the bits and pieces I managed to photograph and process. One of the nicest things is that you have no control, can't swear at using the wrong lens, aperture or ISO … it just is as it is.

So this is my first landscape blur which I've processed using my normal workflow and added a couple of very light texture layers as they seemed to lift the image. Not expecting rave reviews, but I did think that the 'out of the window' suited the 'out of the box' forum!

This is certainly a great example of "out of the window" OOTB image I like the mood with layers of colors and the bright sky behind the trees... pano crop definitely enhances it. I am not a fan of color noise but in this case it brings an abstract quality to it... I like it!

I also like it, Hillary and I'm not a big fan of blur images. The only thing I question is the deep yellow inbetween the trees - if that were toned down a little would it look better or worse? I can't help but wonder...

Hilary, I like the amount of blur, the colors and the comp. Julie makes a good suggestion regarding the brighter golds, especially in the center and one small spot on the right. This one has your signature look!

Hilary, this is an interesting image...I agree with Julie's suggestion regarding the BG golds..and like Indranil, I like the pano crop. I've seen several photographers at the local Botanical Gardens over the summer shooting with I-phones as well...now I know why! Nice capture!

Hi Hilary, I like your OOTW OOTB shot! I've always said that a good photographer can good results regardless of the gear and you are proving that here... Does have your look and feel! Good advice above, no need to repeat. We had a cell phone theme a while back but got very little participation. Maybe we will try it again next year, as more and more phones have a camera built-in these days. My Android X has an 8MP camera with a mechanical shutter. Love it!

Like Kerry's comments re your photo and the others' re the color, but wow, what a great shot from a phone! Guess I'd better practice--and get a phone I can download those photos from.

Thank you everyone for the feedback, I appreciate everyone taking time with a 'fun' shot. The biggest challenge is processing such small files as it is easy to be heavy handed. But having all the restrictions of the iPhone or similar does focus the mind on what you can and can't photograph.

I'll have a look at toning down the golds, thanks for the suggestion.
