I'm not sure if this one is working as well as I would like or not...but it's getting close to the effect I was hoping for. Original shot with the 100-400@400mm, f/22@1/25. Processed the RAW file in LR...evicted a few insects in PS...and then did a bit of PB oil...followed by Topaz Detail and NIK Tonal Contrast..followed by Fractalius and then by Topaz Simplify. After it was all said and done I brought a bit of the original back through the filtered layers for detail. I probably should start writing some of this down as I go...but it's more just what I think is working at any given moment! Comments and suggestions welcomed.

Wonderful result, John! I really like the dreamy quality and the colors and comp are right on. Sometimes it's fun to just get lost in the process. Thanks for all the details on the technique. Well done!

John, what I love the most (and there is a lot to love) about these flower images is the dimensionality - it seems like the viewer can just fall into the center part of the flower. The colors and depth are wonderful. My only suggestion would be to tone down the brightest highlights just a bit. Well done!

An explosion of color! I think it works well. In post processing, I find myself torn between recording what I've done and just moving forward with the effects I'm discovering.

Steve, Kerry and Anita..thank you for your comments. Kerry, I'll take a look at those highlights tomorrow...my eyes are tired right now (long day - we've all been there!), and I know better than to make adjustments when my eyes are shot! Steve and Anita, I agree...sometimes it's fun just to lose yourself in what you're doing...and let the image take you where it will. I find myself doing that more and more...
