Wow, that's absolutely fantastic, Noelle. The prey, the drops, the pose. Love that BG and the lily pads? on the water surface. You sure are lucky to have witnessed this, and so very skillful to capture it so well.

What fun! Only nit would be the bit of perch hitting his tail feather but somethings we just have no control over. The image is wonderful, nice and sharp, great eye contact, water drops, perfect exposure and unusual behavior, to say the least.

This whole series has been great, Noelle, refreshingly unique & fun behavior captures. Glad he finally got the fish! Very nice work! I'm sure there is a nature magazine out there that would love to have this great documentation of rare behavior.

    Thanks Melissa,

Yes, those are lily pads and it amazes me how he just kept looking and finding fish while dangling from a tree branch. BTW, those lily pads were keeping my kayak steady :)

Thanks Carole, I knew the minute he started climbing down a tree branch overlooking the water that I was in for a treat. I do not think this behavior is that unusual for this species, capturing it is the hard part because they like to hunt in hidden little coves and are so camouflaged to their surroundings. If I had not been in my kayak I would have never seen this happen. (Chad has also captured this behavior from his kayak in Michigan)
