    Default Verdin

This was one of the birds I really wanted to photograph in Arizona this year.
Fortunately we found one in the beginning of our trip in Tucson. To attract the
bird I used some bits of audio.
I wish the perch hadn't been in such bad shape but it was one of his favorite ones (no setup perch here).
I cropped to 75% of FF and removed a small OOF branch.
Let me know if the brightness is ok.

BTW, here is a double-catchlight without flash.

    Comments and critique are welcome.

Great perch and I like the clean background. The yellow in the head really stands out.

    Luis:

Sharp, well exposed, nice angle in frame. Pleasant BG with just enough variation in color to be interesting. The perch is not perfect, but I rather like it. Looks like an old sword or knife which is returning to the elements.

It is a bit bright for my tastes.

Hope to see more from your trip.

    Cheers

Beautiful. I like the nicely weathered perch as is. Great BG too. Sharp, and the singing pose is very good. Colours excllent. I would eliminate the second catchlight and also crop from bottom to 3:2 ratio. I do find it a tad bright overall...pulling down the midtones to 0.85 in PS "Levels" gives a nice result on my monitor. We're you suspecting it may be bright, thus the question?

Thanks Daniel. I normally use a macbook pro laptop to edit the images. I calibrated it a while ago,
but lately I've been receiving comments on the brightness of the images so I suspected this one would be a bit too bright.
I'll try to calibrate it again and see if it helps. If it doesn't I think I'll have to get an IPS monitor to hook up to the laptop.

    Luis,

I like the bird, perch and background. This in one bird I hope to get to photograph next year. I would like a little more room on top and a little less on the bottom.

The bird is excellent and the background nice. I'll go against the grain on the perch, but it's not a setup so you take what you get. I agree with cropping some from the bottom.

Thanks a lot for the useful comments.
I calibrated my laptop and reworked the image. Let me know if it looks better now.

Lovely pose, light and details. What a gorgeous bird. Prefer the crop in the repost.
On my uncalibrated monitor + safari + mac, the repost looks a bit muted - the original looks much better.
    Nice work, Luis.

Very unique colorings on this bird, and nice pose, Luis! Very nicely composed, clean BG, and like the diagonal line and texture of perch. Repost looks great!

A stunning capture, I would agree with Sidharth, the crop in the repost is better. However, a little more space on the right would look
more pleasing. Reducing the brightness of the BG would bring greater depth......

Luis, I like the crop in the repost better. Beautiful shot. And pretty incredible considering its not a setup. I do like the perch. details, angle, BG....superb on all counts. Well done.
