    Default Stretching Solitary Sandpiper.

This time it's a Solitary Sandpiper that gave me the classic shorebird strecth. A bit less of a profile that I prefer for this pose, but interesting enough pose from this angle. The light was also off angle by alot (way off to the left), but it was quite diffused therefore I got good result anyhow. A few seconds after this a mallard stole the perch from this fella...those darn marsh bullies!!

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, darkened some brighter areas in the BG and the perch via burn tool. 75% FF.

Very nice! Great eye contact. I love the slight verticals of the background. You got a bit of sdeparation between the leg and the wing, nice depth of field on the bird, and I pretty much like the crop ( I go back and forth between a little less rock and the fact that I like the textures in the rock).

Nice pose captured, with a beauty and great perch background, Daniel.
Your picture reminds me that one time a little guy fell asleep in front of me so close, that I no longer could focus.
Then it movet a bit and stretched, giving me a great opportunity. Was yours sleeping before?

Did you clone out the pee stream

Very nice moment captured Dan. Is this the same rock as the post before? if so, its your luck rock! I'm digging the bg, very surreal.

Another very good image from you Daniel. The bird is well exposed and sharp and stands out nicely from a very nice BG.

Very nice image, Daniel. Love the background and the pose.
I'd be tempted to lighten up the bird a little bit (fill light in LR) and move the subject to the right a little.

Wonderful background on this one, Daniel!

I share your preference for more of a profile for this kind of pose.

Love the humor first, but the BG and subject are rendered with skill. I really like this pic.

Thanks everyone! Chad, not the same rock, but same pond (these two rocks only a few feet away actually). Locally this species is almost a guarantee at this time of year in this particular pond...

Cool looking pose, Daniel, and really like the BG on this. Each element works well to make for a pleasing comp. Nice job!

Thanks Artie. This particular pond is surrounded by forest, it's just a matter of sitting at the base of some trees and wait for them to show up, usually from behind me. As they land they have no idea of my presence thanks to all the trees hiding me. If I stay still they do stick around for a while even if they notice me...but any sudden movement and they fly off to the back of the pond...

Who would think that an intimate knowledge of bird behavior combined with great skill and patience could be better than having an 800mm lens (or even a 500mm and a 1.4X III TC)?
