Default Water Lily Amidst the Pads

Shot under very cloudy skies, just before the rain let loose. 100-400 lens, shot at 200mm, f/32@1/5. RAW image processed in LR, brought into PS for the filter work. Used Topaz Clean first, followed by NIK Tonal Contrast, then finished off with Fractalius. Lowered the opacity on the filtering layer to let a bit more detail show through, but not much. I know there's a lot going on in this image...but I find myself liking the lines and patterns.

Hi John, love the color in the blossom and the comp is nice also. I think this is my favorite of your water lily images. Very nice!

Fantastic John, I love the vertical symmetry. The shooting angle makes the pad on top seem like a mirror image floating up there. The yellow/orange and blue/violet make nice complimentary colors. Could maybe have a little more room on the left. Love the fract work!

    Hi John,

Beautiful colors and PP. My take, the top lily pad competes (size and pattern) with the beautiful blossom. A quick browser crop, to just around the pads center, feels more balanced. Do a quick browser crop and check the difference in depth from foreground to background, from the OP, Of course, that's my take, see what others think. I love the idea of light and dark layers.

John, I love the processing you did for this one. Great colors and the image is striking. I immediately thought a sliver off the top leaving a small buffer between the water drop and the edge. Not sure if that is what Jay was suggesting

Denise, yes, that is pretty close to what I was suggesting. I wan't too clear though.

Really like this composition, John. Great colors and nice combination of filtering. Has a watercolor look to it. I like the contrast of the pads almost 2D look against the 3D pop of the bloom. Well done!

I like the colors in the image and the pattern in the top leaf. I think a small crop off the top is a good idea but it's very nice as presented.

First, thank you Andrew, Kerry, Jay, Denise, Brendan and Judy for your comments and suggestions...I appreciate the time every one takes to offer insights and support. Jay and Denise...I cropped a bit off the top...to the area I think you were suggesting...I like both versions to be honest with you! I do have a question...a) What is a browser crop? b) On occasion, I've noticed that someone will do a quick repost of someone else's image to help convey their thoughts...I tried that the other day to help someone, but didn't post the results...the colors were all out of whack. Is there something I am missing? Thanks again..and here's the repost.

John, great RP. Much better......Browser crop.....just scroll the image within the Bird Forum window, and you can visualize the crop as the image scrolls up through the window. Stop scrolling at the point that feels right, instant crop! I haven't a clue about the color problem. Maybe Denise knows.....

    Hi John,
Another beauty. They keep getting better and better. Very nice job in the capture and your filter treatment.

John, beautiful colors and I love the repetition of the shapes. I love what Fractalius can do and wish it worked on a Mac.

John, Beautiful repost. I would check to see if it is sRGB or RGB that you are reposting compared to what the other person posted.

Catherine, thank you for your comments...have you ever considered running Parallel on your Mac? It's not a cheap proposition in some ways...you have to have a licensed copy of Windows...a Win copy of PS...but then your could run Fractalius on your Mac. Just a thought...the people I know that run Parallel on their Mac for other programs (like QImage) have been very happy.

    Denise, I'm not sure..but I'll look!
