    Default Common (Wilson's) Snipe

I photographed my first Common Snipe earlier this summer, located on a fence post surrounded by tall grasses. The 'hand of man' isn't ideal (and, in this case, hard to avoid), however I don't mind the weathered look of it. Minimal PP work completed including a WB adjustment and some sharpening.

All C&C welcome. Thanks for looking.

    Shooting Details: 7D, 300 f/4 + 1.4x TC, 1/400s @ f/5.6, ISO 200

Sorry folks -- didn't see the other two Snipes pop up while I was preparing this post...

Very nice image, Craig. The bird is of course gorgeous. The weathered perch along with all the lichen makes it nice even though it's not a natural perch. Nice to get a clear look at the feet. I like the head turn but a bit could've used a bit more.
Vibrant bg. I like all the space you've left around - the comp works well for me.
    Superb!

We can call it; The Day of The Snipes.
    Looks great, Craig.

Love the pose, I like the placement of the feet and how one is partially hidden. Seems to indicate the balance the bird has.
The raggedy fence post has lots of character that adds to the shot for me.

Agree with the above critiques. Would look awesome as a vertical in my opinion.

Killer light, spectacular perch, sharp, a good look-back head turn, and a great bird. The only thing that bugs me is the bird's somewhat awkward posture.... Still, I wish it were in my collection :)

I couldn't agree more with the above comments. Love the green BG, goes great with the perch and bird.
