    It was a cloudy day and the owl did not show up. So I got out of my flash and took some shots of his pretty bird.
    Filled flash used.

    Troy:

    Good use of flash, subtle as I like it. Sharp, well exposed. Like the comp, I think the balance is quite good, like the inclusion of the wings. Pleasant BG.

    Good to come up with a new plan when plan A didn't pan out.

    Its a great portrait, the bird is extremely sharp and the BG is amazing...

    Excellent use of flash to create a nicely balanced exposure. Super sharp and a nice pose!

    Great work in highlighting the colors of the Black Vulture. What owl species were you expecting? Look for 3-4 Barn Owl in the Cedar Stand area mentioned in Tom Obrock's 17 Aug 11 wildlife blog entry.

    Appears to be about halfway between Naples and Fort Lauderdale on 75. Certainly worth investigating.
