Hi Joel! Beautiful focus and pose! Although some might complain about it being too tight, I would like to see a touch more shaved off the top (~ 1/3 of the way down between the top of the frame and the top of the bird's head). Was this natural light or fill flash?

Hi Joel, nice job shooting from the luxurious Hooptie. I like the nice s-curve of the head and neck and how it forms into the bird, quite nice. I'm seeing a magenta cast to the image. I used color balance in CS5 and moved the midtones magenta/green slider to the right, toward green and used a curves layer to darken the bg. I also took that little bit off the top as long as I was there... Nice capture, I really like the look-back pose.

Thanks to all for looking and commenting,

Kerry I think the repost is an improvement, I hadn't noticed the color cast. I had already cropped some off the top (this was a vertical shot) but I agree with taking a little more. Appreciate you taking the time to work with it.

I did not use flash it was early morning Florida sunlight.

Very smart Joel. Love the simplicity of the image and the overall layout. Sharpness is super. Light is sweet. I see you have cropped to keep the "virtual" feet, problem is that it then forces you to include a pretty weak reflection. Not much you can do about this.

I often struggle with square crop but some don't mind it.
    Sharpness, exposure are superb.
Two things, the crop/composition and if you are looking for perfection, head angle is not parallel to the sensor.
I wonder if you the next few frame with better head angle?

Joel - nice light and sharpness. The repost takes this to the next level.

I chuckled to myself b/c I was pretty sure I knew where this was taken before even opining up the picture. I like this different perspective, so the angle isn't bothering me here. Kerry took care of the cast. I would prefer a true vertical rather than the more square composition you have here, but it's whatever works for you. You have very nice details in this pelican and lovely colors and BG.
