    Default Hand over exercise

    Attached Images Attached Images

This image was created on an early July morning at Nickerson Beach, Long Island, NY. This OC and chick were very active with feeding along the shore line and practicing the hand over of food.

    Desaturated the bill.

This image was created with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens at 800mm, and the EOS-1DMIV. ISO 500. Evaluative metering: 1/1000 sec. at f/9.0 set manually.

    All comments are welcome.

    Thanks for looking.

Nice one, Clemens. You got much nicer lighting on both birds than I managed in a similar situation on Sandy Hook. Good DOF to capture both birds.

Doesnt get much better than this, just lovely.
I like the crossed over leg on the adult and the beach angle, the detail and sharpness is amazing
800 has some punch but I would need to sell body parts to get one

Perfect timing of the interaction, Clemens. The background is sweet too. Note that the left foot of the adult is missing a toe and the ankle shows evidence of damage from fishing line. Two years ago, we caught a tangled bird, took it to a rehabber who removed the toe, gave the bird antibiotics, and released it a few days later. We'll certainly never know if it's the same bird, but makes for some nice thoughts.

That's a nice story Grace! There was another OC that I photographed earlier that morning that had also fishing line tangled around one foot. First I thought it was seaweed, but looking at the pictures later it was nylon line. So sad.

Clemens, excellent exposure on the OC's and good to see parent and chick. They both stand out nicely from the sea BG.

Perfect on all counts, Clemens, what a treat this image is. Wonderful DOF and low angle. Great observation by Grace that adds even more to this.

Great shooting angle and interaction. Love how the birds pop out from the blue BG.

Excellent behaviour and all the techs look good. Good low angle too. I wish there was more of the blue at bottom left edge, the current sliver of it makes me want it out rather than just a peek. Good stuff!
