    Default Ol' Green Eyes

Photographed this very young Brown Pelican in its nest last Spring (as in 2010) and just now processed it. I am amazed by its green eyes b/c they are born with brown eyes and have brown eyes as fledglings and adults. (I have been looking over my various Brown Pelican files for comparison.) Not sure if it's an anomaly in this case or if they have a short phase of light eyes, but would love to find out.

This is almost full frame. Cropped just a tad off of the right and top.

I've never seen one with green eyes, but I haven't seen any this young before. Excellent pose, and I love the texture of the bill. Maybe a sliver off the right and a bit more canvas on the left.

What an interesting fella. Having never seen a young peli before, I'd have guessed some old world Stork :)
Love the details and the pop against the dark bg.
    Agree with Doug's suggested comp.

First time I see a young brown pelican. The image is beautiful. I love the pose and all the fine detail on both the bill and .
I would leave the composition as it is.

Very wild looking, never saw one in person. TFS.
Agree with it is too centered.

Hi Marina, cool pose, and I like how you have cropped this. Good job on the whites, and I like the overall sharpness. Stands out nicely against the darker BG.

Great close-up of this very young individual. I agree with comp suggestion. Marina, my adult pelican images have light blue eyes so perhaps the pigments are already there at this stage...still interesting how they go from green to brown to blue if that is the case!
