I am pretty sure this is a greater yellowlegs but it might be lesser. Would appreciate confirmation,

Very nice pose, above the blue water. Sharpness is good. I would tone down the highlights a bit.

Hi Gail, i'm not very good with the ID's of shore birds, sorry I can't help you there. Very nice floating moment you captured with some very nice detail in the wings, my only nit would be a slight rotation CW and a tad more room for me on top and less on the bottom.

    Great shot!

Hello Gail, this is a nice gliding pose, pretty sharp with detail under the shadowed wings. I think the legs are just a bit bright.

Gail, The bill doesn't look long enough for a Greater and it would curve up slightly. I'm not an expert but those are my thoughts.

Nice flight shot, Gail. Love the dangling legs. I'm no expert either, but I had the same reaction as Denise, that to me this looks like a Lesser. I second Chad's thoughts on the crop.

It looks like the bill is about the same size as the head: Lesser Yellowlegs. The Greater yellowlegs has a substantial longer bill, that would stick out of its head if you put it through there (as a matter of speaking of course).

I would crop some of the bottom and right side. You might want to do a linear burn on the bright areas of the legs.

excellent! this is a tough bird to get in flight and you did very well. I am not a fan of the squarish crop, would go 3 : 2 with a tighter bottom crop

I agree this looks like a Lesser Yellowlegs (straight, not too long, all-black bill). I also second the suggestion of moving the bird down a little.
Arash, I think the crop is 3:2 already...

Thank you all for your help-a lesser yellowlegs it is! Now that you have all mentioned this I see that my crop is not ideal. I will recrop as per your suggestions!

I really like the reflected light under the wings. Just enough to give detail.
And yes, it is a Lesser.

Love the pic. Nice glide. As for ID, I am the worst person to be giving ID advice (if it has wings, I call it a bird...) but could this be the lesser Yellowlegs. I don't see any curve in this beak.

A tough bird for flight indeed, you did very well. I just wish for a higher near wing position (which could have perhaps also prevented the shadow across the body). Agree with the crop suggestion. Well done though...I have nothing in flight of this species, and have tried...

Good to see that two of my shorebird students, Denise and Clemens were right on. A relatively short, needle straight bill about the same length as the head says Lesser all the way :). Love those hanging yellow legs but not the wing position. Still neat to pull this one off sharply.

I agree that this looks like a lesser. Wonderful flight shot!
