You can almost imagine this wiley old marabou say as he watches the chaos and madness of another Mara river crossing.

    D3s 500VR 1/500s ISO400@f/5.6 Masai Mara Oct 2010 cropped 30% to pano.

    C & C most welcome

    Cheers

Marc - great scene and the dust flying really adds to it. A real feeling of chaos with a casual observer. Small nit - the whites on the stork and in some of the water just behind the wildies look blown to me.

Great points by Rachel about the whites. This is a fine image that captures the urgency and chaos of one of the most dangerous events in these animals' life. The stork looks like he is smiling.

The crop works well and the stork is definetly a point of interest. The dust is sweet.

Love the story on this one, and that stork really stands out. Does this need some CW rotation or is it just my eyes?

Nice line formed by the herd leading down to the water. I like how the curves of the horns show through the dust. Stork reminds me of a school crossing guard. Except this guard doesn't care if those in his care make it across!

Hi Marc, the dust clouds and tightly packed, compressed herd certainly helps to convey the sense of urgency and the driving force these animals experience when crossing the Mara. Crazy they will do all over again in a short while after crossing. I also like the inclusion of the stork as it adds a nice touch, but for me, it gives scale and shows how big these birds are. Like the choice of pano too.

If you get a chance again Marc, be good to try some wider shot too, as the rivers of 15, 25, 30,000+ wildebeests massing and the rivers of them making their way across the landscape is certainly a spectacle to behold.

Yep, agree Steve that these crossing images are best appreciated in a wide format......we are but allowed only 1024W however.
This one @ 200mm conveys that feeling somewhat, as wide a frame as would allow from this vantage point.

Nice frantic scene here Marc, and the Marabou certainly makes the scene for me...
I wonder if the WB isn't a tad too green? Would consider warming it up a bit.

Thanks for posting the wider image! Always nice to see them...
