I spotted at least 8 green heron tonight, I played a call for about 20 seconds and they came flying out from all directions. It was a great experience being with 3 heron @ about the length and a half from my kayak, I took over 900 photos tonight in about 3 hours time and briefly went through a few of them, this was one of my favorites, I just loved the hollowed out log and environment around him .

    Chad:

Love the lighting here, the expectant pose, log, and the feather is a killer detail.
Sharp, well exposed, like the overall comp.

I might consider a version with the luminosity of the RUC brought down a bit to keep our eye on the bird.

Look forward to more form your outing.

    Cheers

Very nice pose and light! Great shot!

Only thing I find a bit disturbing is the black in the tree

Chad, I like this one a lot! The open end of the log is cool and I'm glad you included it. Nice sharp details.

Gorgeous light, Chad; and great hunting pose. Normally I might say that this much 'habitat' at the bottom overwhelms the bird, but in this case the hollow log and feather are so compelling that they help make the shot a winner. Looking forward to more.

A beautifully composed image with an interesting pose from the bird and great habitat detail - we Brits prefer some habitat!!!. The lighting produces a superb atmospheric image.

Oooh that's nice! Light is awesome and the habitat is killer. I really like the feather, the birds raised foot and the mossy perch.

Lovely spot light effect, nice pose with the raised foot and the intense stare and killer habitat - like that white feather by the log.
    Well done, Chad.
