    Default Elegant Tern

Taken just before sunset at a local creek mouth. There was a mixed flock of terns and gulls on the beach, and new terns would fly in every couple minutes. The wind at my back ensured that the terns would land facing me.

Added a bit of canvas on top.

Very nice wing spread pose, and beautiful light, Aidan. Very nice detail and rich dark BG gives good contrast. Well done!

Love the spread wing and tail. And the sharpness. Are they gone when the molt to breeding plumage?

Great shot, Aidan. Love the wing position, and the head against the wing. Wonderful light, and great fortune (or planning) to get the wind at your back. It never seems to happen to me. Nicely done.

    Thanks Artie, Brendan, and Bill!

Artie, They are usually only here in late summer and fall. I've never seen one with full breeding plumage.

I love the incoming pose, BG, and shadow on the far wing. The brighter highlights in that wing do kinda draw my attention though...did they need taming during post? In any case you could try lower the luminosity there a bit more. Overall very well done!!

Killer good flight shot! Everything down to the background is great in this shot.

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

Dan: I did tone down the wings a tad in the master file, but not any more in the jpeg. I am OK with the brightness, but agree that it does draw your eyes to the wings.
