    Default Black-Crested Coquette

Not the easiest hummingbird to find in Costa Rica. We came across this guy in the late afternoon at the Hanging Bridges near Arenal. The head turn could be better, but then you would lose the black crest.

Fantastic species, one of the most beautiful of all the hummingbird species in my opinion. Thanks for sharing

Excellent Doug, wow! the details and colors are great.

I would take a little off the left side, a little bit too much dead space.

Wow, what an awesome looking hummer! The way the top part of the perch flows right along with the front wing and the similar color make for a bit of mind trip.

Very nice light and details. I'm not sure I have seen this species before. Thanks for sharing. I might put him a bit higher in the frame.

Doug, you certainly are a very lucky guy! as you say this is not an easy hummer to find, you have done a great work in here! to me this is almost perfect, it is not because it was not me the one who took the picture!
By the way, do you use the better beamer?

Yes I do Juan. Funny story. On our first day in Costa Rica this year, we found a pair of quetzals. I grabbed my 1D Mark III, 500 f/4, 1.4x, Better Beamer, and tripod and set up quickly. Next thing I know, the camera, flash, and 1.4x fall off of the 500 and crash onto the ground (maybe a 5 foot fall). Thank god the camera wasn't damaged. One of the plastic side arms of the Beamer was broken in half though. Luckily I brought some super glue on the trip, and the repair held up just fine. I will say that the Mark III is built like a tank!
