These Bee-eaters were breeding in a river embankment, and were out and about catching food for their youngsters.
The perch is an exposed root of a tree protruding from the embankment.

Kind of funny, really, great photo, but it seems so "matter of fact' to the birds in the photo.
Another ho hum day catching insects!
Very well done, a beautiful day in the life of Bee-eaters.
The focus, BG and perch is really nice.

    Stuart:

    Great timing, lovely colors.

The illumination is more even on the left bird, and I could see a vertical of just him as an option. I suspect you could bring the right birds luminosity up easily enough.

Did you use flash? The catch light looks flash like, but I would have thought fill would have evened out the lighting on the right bird a bit more. I know it is tough to have it ready in all circumstances to help with dappled light, but it can be a real handy thing at times.

    Cheers

Thanks as always for your informative feedback too. No flash was used. Both had natural catchlights, and all I did was reduce the size of the catchlights and sharpened them a touch to bring them out.
I also agree the BE on the left could stand alone, and I did think of it, but thought two would add to the image. Very little pp work done, so enhancing the BE on the right will work. Cheers.

Thanks to everyone else too. Always appreciated.

    Stuart:

Your tweaking of the natural catchlight explains why I thought it was perhaps from flash, thanks for clarifying.
I agree that the two birds are stronger than one, esp. since image quality might start to suffer with a large crop.
Massage the luminosity on the right bird a smidge, and you have a winner!

    Cheers
