Actually, DOF was not quite enough but it was very close and close enough that a "Depth of Field" adjustment with PhotoKit Sharpener 2 was able to improve it.
It's a special type of sharpening specifically for this type of situation that I selectively applied at the very tip of the bill.

Wow, can't say anything bad about him. My favorite duck. You have a good angle, love that bill, eyes and crest. A dream photo!

This one made me smile! I like the low angle and the bubbles and the "in your face" look. What exactly is involved with "bubbling"? How do the ducks do it?

Good DOF Mike, and you have captured a perfect head on perspective. I dont know this species, but love the layers of colours on him. The bubbled wave adds interest. Well captured.

They raise their heads, tail, and the two tufts of feathers on top of their head, inflate their chest, and then "drum" on their chest with their bill which creates the bubbles.

Don't know if the bubbles come from air between the feathers or if they have some sort of air sac that they inflate. They also make some strange sounds while doing this.

I found a short video clip of the behavior captured at the same pond where I took the photo, only one month later ... might even be the same duck! :

Super cool Mike. I have not been able to get this close to a Ruddy. Love the bubbles and straight on pose.
