Yesterday afternoon while out in the yard I came across this newly emerged White Admiral butterfly. I nudged it onto my finger and then placed it on the Rudbeckia flower in the garden. Used my Nikon 105mm micro lens and SB-400 flash for the capture. Optimizing the image included evicting a few stray yellow petals from other blossoms that I felt were problematic. I wanted a clean look - one flower and the butterfly. I used Fractalius 'rounded' preset and then further tweaking in Viveza.
Last post for a week or so. I am heading north to Horseshoe Lake. Look forward to catching up on all the great images I will miss while away. Take care folks.
Hi Andrew, good job on this! The filter use is not overdone and a clean, crisp look was created. Nicely muted backround, even lighting along with good positioning of the subject. Well handled!
Andrew, you're becoming a master with your use of Fractalius...this would have been a strong image without the filter, but I think your application in processing puts it over the top. I'd make one small suggestion...just a bit of a rotation CCW....right now the butterfly is looking almost straight up, and that, along with the angle of the antenna, draw my up away from the image...just a thought...and a matter of preference..it's a wonderful image as it is.
Andrew, I remember this one from your recent blog post. Excellent use of the filter and the composition is terrific. The BF looks great Have a great trip bring back lots of images!
