Took the picture of this Warbling Vireo(I believe) in mid-morning near Ann Arbor, MI. Edited exposure in RAW, levels in PS. Adjusted contrast and sharpened. Using my laptop so I hope the color/contrast is accurate. Thank you for any comments.

    Hi Steve

Sweet image and nice catch light in eye. The red in the background maybe a little too distractive and I am trying to imaging what the image would be like without it. It would not be difficult to remove if that fits within your ethics. Could stand a little more sharpening.

Lovely bird Steven. I agree with Warbling but I find this species and the Philadelphia and Bell's very similar. Certainly the distribution is right for Warbling.

I like the portrait of the bird itself. It has some great attributes such as the eye contact, pose, and sharpness. I can live with the BG but maybe you could consider toning down the very light OOF branches.

I like the bird Steven, I would definately like to see it sitting on that branch with the blossoms. I see a little noise on the shadow areas and tail of the bird. Very pretty image.

Thank you all for the comments.

I wanted to keep the berries in the composition as he was eating them. On the re-post I tried to tone down the OOF branches using a mask and shadow/highlights. Not sure if this worked well?

I like the photo very much. Very nice details. The PP work on the toned down branch though looks unnatural to me.

Steve, I like the original post better. I agree that the repost looks not quite right. I'm not a big fan of s/h, would prefer curves or levels any time. For this job I would probably use the burn tool set to a low value like 7%. The bird looks really good, maybe a few toasty pixels on the bill that would be cured by 1/3 stop less in the exposure. Would be nicer for me if the branch in the background were below the bird instead of above it. Really cute little bird!

Lovely image and I think the red berries add to it. I agree that the repost isn't quite there and prefer the OP. It's worth another try following Kerry's suggestions.

    Rachel
