    Default Green Heron Habitat.

From a few weeks ago. I like the sense of habitat in this image...hard to believe this is in an urban area, a little oasis in the middle of the city!

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light, handheld, about 80% FF.

I like this a lot. Habitat is great and composition works very well IMHO.

Very nice composition and I think image really works well. I like the strong greens of the habitat. My only quibble would be the fairly strong vertical line created down the centre of the image by the closest block of background vegetation.

    Daniel:

Good pose, light, agree about the strong sense of habitat. Duck weed.

I agree with Ben about that vertical clump. Certainly wouldn't remove, might tone down the luminosity just a bit.

Always fun to find a little treasure in the city.

    Cheers

Fantastic greens and also like the habitat. Excellent composition that has plenty of space and also like the perch placement.

OK Dan, you have outdone yourself here - great show of habitat, and love the proud pose from the heron. The angle of capture is spot on, and I like the inclusion of duck weed in the water. I also like the space below the tree perch. Fine image.

Hard to believe indeed! There are a lot of these 'gem' locations if one knows where to look.
The bird really pops from the green BG Daniel!

Great comp and love the habitat as well, nice job on all techs. Would be neat to see a pull back of this area.

The way you handle your 7D never ceases to amaze me. I need some private tutorials from you on how to shoot great IQ images at iso 800 and the 7D. I love this shot. No nits from me at all,

Daniel, what a shot. loved the log. Excellent subject placement and IQ. Those urban spots are very good as birds are usually used to people. You can get close and also spend quality time with the birds.
