    Dan:

Quite a striking fellow, bill is wild.

Sharp, good DOF, like the water, nice angle in frame.

I might try a version with 1/4 of the free space above cropped off.

Some of the whites on flank/rump look a bit lacking in detail. Might be worth a reconversion to try and bring out some more texture there.

    Cheers

"toto, we're not in Kansas (oops... Oregon) any more!"

    Seriously... a nice pic!

Hi Dan, love the low angle and light, however it seems like you are having some issues with processing, like the previous image the details are lacking and there are some digital artifacts in the head...what does the original look like?

Arash, as usual I really appreciate your comment and criticism.
I don't know, when I downsize for the BPN upload, I just lose IQ.
Maybe it is a NX2 problem, but probably my own lack of experience.
Here is the out of camera photo, no processing at all, just converted to jpeg.
I darkened the BG on the one I posted, got rid of the glare, used NR and lightened the eye a bit.
    A small crop.
    That is it.
It looks fine on my monitor but posted, it doesn't look as good.
This one is the original w/ no PP at all.
Not downsized and is just the Raw photo converted to jpeg.
No sharpening, no anything, just an out of camera photo.
I don't know what I am doing wrong, appreciate any advice.

Dan, good job on the eye from the original, and I like the HA here. When I look at the original especially the beak, there seems more detail in the original. When you run NR, are you running it over the whole image?

Dan can you send me the NEF files ? my email is in my profile... I will send it back to you with some instructions. I think there is something wrong in your NX2 settings...

Prefer the original!... Great contrast with the green BG and water!

    Hi Dan,
I processed your file here it is, you can do much better starting with the NEF. Noise reduction had destroyed the details in the original
