I got lucky this fella hopped onto this fallen log. Everything beneath it was dirt ugly: mud, slime, swamp scum, rotting wood, soupy water, duck dung, you name it! At least above the perch was more of a dreamy, sweet, colourful, clean atmosphere! A nice full-body view too with a good look at the feet (which we don't see often with this species). One wish: For the HA tilted up higher for bill/body separation...

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/6.3, ISO 800, +0.7 EC, natural light, handheld, about 80% FF. Audio was turned off at this point, with the subject returning to the depths of the reeds...

A very pleasing habitat image! Sharp with excellent detail, nice soft light. I would try to tone down the bright area at the BG.

Fine capture of a very tough subject. They just don't come out too offten , and when they do they are never in a nice spot. This one gave you a good opp. and you took advantage. Might try to tone down the bright reed on the left and the BG is a bit bright as well.

Wonderful capture, Daniel! I know how tough this is, I have some pics from a Virginia Rail here in NY but they are awfully cluttered. Really nice background that speaks to the habitat though perhaps it could be toned down a bit. Fantastic clarity and details.

Wonderful habitat shot, Daniel, first time I've ever seen VR feet! These are tough to get, congrats! Agree with comments about BG. The brown reed seems fine to me, part of the habitat. TFS!

Love how you've got a reed in front of the log. Unusual and really nice, Daniel.

Daniel, I have yet to see a rail (Ive heard plenty of them) Another great shot, showing all of the bird in a very pleasing environment. Nice work!

How cute is that? Great body position and the habitat lines angles and colors are super. Love it.
