This Ptarmigan was photographed near Nome, AK.
We saw many of them enjoying the morning sun on the side of the road.
This one allowed us to get pretty close for a full frame shot. It has a transitional plumage, in winter
these birds are all white to blend in with the snow, while in the summer they look brown.
What you see in the background are willows, which in the tundra grow only up to 6-7 feet due to the harsh weather conditions.
I added a bit f canvas to the top and right of the canvas to improve the composition a little.
