    Default Willow Ptarmigan

This Ptarmigan was photographed near Nome, AK.
We saw many of them enjoying the morning sun on the side of the road.
This one allowed us to get pretty close for a full frame shot. It has a transitional plumage, in winter
these birds are all white to blend in with the snow, while in the summer they look brown.
What you see in the background are willows, which in the tundra grow only up to 6-7 feet due to the harsh weather conditions.

I added a bit f canvas to the top and right of the canvas to improve the composition a little.

Very nice portrait Luis! Love the singing pose, great sharpness, and splash of color above the eye. Good detail in the whites. It was a good choice to add a bit of canvas.

Luis, good calling pose, and interesting mixture of colours on this fellow. Well exposed on the whites, overall sharp, and just love the colour of the BG. You could try creating a vertical with this too, although I find this comp just fine as is.

Now here is a bird I've never seen and your photograph is simply wonderful. You've handled everything beautifully and especially contrast. Thanks.

Nice calling pose, sweet light, and I like how camouflaged his foot his in the rocky soil. +1 for vertical composition.

Yes, I also like this bird's feet. It's one of the few birds I know with feathers down to the feet.
Anyway, here is a vertical crop in a 8x10 format.
