    Default Spider Fractalius

The big garden spiders are just beginning to show up in my yard. I believe this one is a juvenile yellow garden orbweaver (argiope aurantia)

    Topaz adjust, fractalius, minor desaturation.

I think spiders are very cool

Beautiful composition, Maureen. Great idea to use the fract on Spiders and it looks cool! I love the effect on the bg although would have preferred a bit darker web pattern. Nicely done.

Great use of filters on this one Maureen...I don't have it yet, but I'm rapidly becoming a fan of Fractalius from viewing work done with it here in OOB. I like the zig-zag web pattern...as Indranil suggested, going slightly darker with it might make the spider stand out a bit more...but another thought; bringing back a bit of the original spider through the effect that Fractalius applied (keeping the same effect but maybe lower that layer opacity on the spider?)...it might add a little detail and contrast that would also make the spider pop. Just thinking out loud...it works as is in SO many ways! Nice job!

This works well for me. In fact I find it more than a little bit scary! Darker BG might help, you can try it and see. But it is good as it is.

I like the composition also and I think the slight desaturation was right on ! Great image

    Hi Maureen,
Good capture on a cool spider indeed. I like the pattern of the web. Some good suggestion offered above.

Thanks for the suggestions. Here's a repost with a darkened background and stabilamentum.

Maureen, I've always liked spiders too and this one looks great - the repost is an improvement and helps highlight the many-legged critter. I've always loved John Goodman's line in "Arachnophobia", when he is told there is a huge web in the barn. He says "that would indicate an arachnid presence..." Love it!

    Maureen....your repost rocks!
I agree with john....you might play around with bringing just a bit of the original spider back with opacity

Spiders are cool....and these are some of my favorites! I think the last repost works for me best.....although some colr back in the spider would be cool as thier backs are awesome! Just a thought and a great job composing this and pp'ing it!

    Thanks, Roman

Juvenile garden orb spiders are pretty much black and white so there isn't any real color to bring back. When the she gets older (and much bigger), she'll be beautifully colored. There are literally hundreds of webs in the woods around my home in early Fall so I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to photograph a few of these ladies in full costume!
