Default Virginia Rail - full body.

After posting the Virginia Rail portrait I had a couple of requests for a full body image. Here's one! Not as low an angle as I'd prefer, but I wasn't going to sink flat-bellied six inches deep in this nasty stuff

    Canon 7D + 100-400L @285mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., F/6.3, ISO 800, 580 EX II flas @ -0.7 FEC. handheld, FF. Audio.

It is great to have one in the open and it just doesn't happen too often.
Great find and a beauty shot of it, Daniel.
The angle is low enough to blur the background and that's what counts.

Great sharpness handheld. The eye is crisp, but catchlight is a little distracting to me. I do like the sharp plane of focus that the subject is in, with the blur of the foreground and background, gives it a nice 3 dimensional quality.

Beautiful shot Daniel. These birds are so shy and rarely come out in the open like that so, well done. i like the HA, the walking pose and the grassy mossy stuff he is walking on,

Very cool to get a rail like this in an uncluttered opening. As mentioned, good HA. Plenty of detail in the bird brought out my a good exposure for a primarily mid-toned image.

    Way to go Daniel.

Dan, you are extremely lucky to capture an open shot of this guy, they are very skittish. Just love the detail and colours, and you have achieved good sharpness too. Nicely separated from the BG. Well captured.

Good job on getting an image of this bird out on the open. The use of audio certainly helps.
I like the composition and the details.
Regarding the angle problem you mentioned, have you tried using a right-angle finder?
They are sometimes useful letting you get lower without actually lying on the ground.

I like these Rail images of yours Daniel as these are such a cryptic species - HA is good.

Great pose and display of the environment. Dark feathers show some noise
