    Default Nikon to iPad2

Can I ask a question to those with these tablets.
I use a Nikon D700 and was looking at a iPad2 as a tool instead of carry my laptop.

And is there any Apple software required to view your images on the tablet ?

What is the process for transferring pictures from your camera or memory card to the tablet ?

Can you edit on the tablet, resize etc... ?

    Thank you

I have both the D700 and an ipad, but I never really use my ipad for photography (except some quick mobile upload to facebook with some art filter applied). I have been looking around for a while on how ipad will help with photography. Many of the things I mention below are from reading off the net, never try them myself.

You can transfer the image directly from your camera to ipad via Apple Camera Connection Kit, just hook up the usb cable to your D700. You can also try third party M.I.C. CF Card reader for ipad, this will take CF card.

The Photos app that came originally with ipad will take RAW image, it will create jpeg version of the RAW and use that for viewing (I might be wrong at this). However you cannot do 100% zoom of the image with Photos app. An alternative would be an application called Photosmith, it will let you view 100% zoom, tag, organize your images and sync back to Lightroom.

You can edit image with app like PhotoForge2 and Filterstorm.

There are other applications that relate to photography on ipad too.

The Photographer's Ephemeris (or TPE), I use this one very often. It will track sun and moon position and you can plan your shoot with it. Note that there is a free version available for MAC/PC too.

Snapseed, another one that I use often. This one is from Nik Software, it has u-point technology which allow you to do selective area adjustment. This app also has some filter for nice effects as well. I use this when I want to do a quick adjustment and do mobile upload to facebook.

DI Direct e-magazine. This is an e-magazine that can sync with Photoshop CS5, basically you can click a button on the ipad and the action will play out on Photoshop CS5 on your computer.

I have a Canon but this program is good for Nikon as well. The app for Ipad2 is called Photosmith and synchs with LR3 and it allows you to view your pictures at up to 100% zoom and tag them into collections but you cannot edit. You cannot delete the pictures either until you transfer pics into LR3. I will be using this as a storage (64GB) device for an upcoming trip. You will need the camera connection kit ($33.95)

The iPad is developing quickly when it comes to photography use. Apple makes a card reader so the type of camera you have is irrelevant.
