This piping plover was resting and keeping an eye on her chicks until this bug started buzzing around her.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from.
Processed in LR3 and NR and cloning of beach done in CS5
Hi Gail, I like how the chick is tucked into the beach sand - looks comfy. The slightly tilted head shows us that he is aware of the bug. I would maybe mask the bug, and run a touch more NR on the BG. Well spotted by both of you.
Sweet shot, Gail. Lovely FG and BG; nice look from the bird. Some of the whites are in the high 240's to 250 - technically not blown but look a little bright on my screen.
I like the idea but I am not sure it really works in here. The bug is too small and blurred and the head is not tilted enough to create a real eye contact between the bird and the bug IMHO.
Thank you all. I appreciate your help and critiques. I will do the NR and do a linear burn on the whites to see if I can tone them down. I wish the bug was in focus and did debate whether to leave it in or not but thought it would leave the viewer wondering why the head was tilted up. But maybe that is a good thing!

Wonderful low angle, colors, comp, and sweetness of this bird, Gail. I think taking the bug out is a good idea, and then it just looks like this momma is surveying the skies...
