Taken earlier this week, this Red Grouse was taking advantage of the warm early morning sunshine we have been experiencing before the 'Glorious 12th' starts, that's the shooting season for this bird, where vast amounts of money is paid to 'bag' these game birds.

I was stumped by the meaning of your title -until I read your explanation. How sad...The light is beautiful. I find the comp a bit tight and would give him more room all around but that is a personal thing. The BG is lovely and adds a somber note to the message. On my monitor the head looks a bit soft-might do another round of sharpening,

Lovely light and colours Steve, and your low angle of capture is spot on. You could put this on the label of a well known whiskey and it wouldnt look out of place. I feel you have attained the sharpness throughout the grouse.

Hi Christopher, yep certain a nice species to photograph and feisty too.

Re the sharpness, I think so to Stuart, but like comps i guess its subjective. Haven't quite mastered the Bowie/Boulle school of sharpening, yet and the 100-400 has finally be dusted down, had a wash & brush up by Canon & sold!! Well it never got used and more kit is needed.

Cheers Kiran, not quite as striking as your birds of prey.

Would like to see some of your serpents posted again, perhaps the spectacled Cobra.

Steve, light, details, habitat, low angle...has it all. well done. with this light angle, the subtle head turn has helped. perfectly timed.

    Hey Steve,
Really like the warm light and colors and the detail looks great as usual. BG also very nice and I like the grassy "bowl" he's in.
