    Default Piping Plover Chick

Huge crop (about 40% of full frame) but more than enough pixels for a note card (4x6 image) which is where this will end up.
Had to go down to 85% quality to get this under 200 KB.

Hope you are not tiring of Plover chicks!
Still going through my images from the last month ... this one was photographed on July 4 on the North Shore of Massachusetts.

Removed two pieces of beach debris and an OOF BG blob.

Looking forward to your comments and critiques!

I will never tire of chicks, Mike. Cuteness factor is high. You have an awesome BG and nice details. I may consider a version with a big more canvas to give him the appearance of being smaller, which he is.

Great low angle on the chick. Nice separation of the chick and BG an often difficult thing to do with these well camouflaged chicks. Nice one.

    Thanks, Marina and Nick!

Marina, you make a good point about the advantages of a looser crop.
This is the crop I did intended for use as a 4x6 image on a note card, which should make the bird about life size.
In general, I tend to crop tighter and sometimes center things a bit more than I normally would when making a note card as that seems to work better for that format.
If I were doing a print of this, I would definitely go looser.

    Hi Mike,
I never tire of these little guys. Lovely image and I see why you framed it the way you did for the note card. Tack sharp as usual. Love the slightly lifted back leg,
    Gail

Great capture Mike, spot on exposure and focus (considering you only have 1" DOF of subject to work with LOL) I would prefer a looser crop as well but would do the same if printing as you are.

Excellent low perspective Mike, and you have captured good fluffy detail throughout. Maybe a bit more room below.
