I photographed this tern recently as it was flying in circles against a grassy background. D7000, 300 f/4 AF-S + 1.7TC, hand-held. ISO auto, at 1250. 1/1250 , f/7.1, +0.66EV, spot-metered on the bird's chest. Cropped, Noise Ninja applied, a touch of Burn applied to back wing, catchlight lightened a little. Comments welcome.

Richard, very nice example of a tern in flight. These guys are difficult to capture and you did a great job of it. I really like the color rendition, flight pose, and background. The peak whites are a little crispy for my eye, but the blacks are nicely rendered. The eye is always a challenge with terns, and you did a pretty good job with this one. Would wish for just a bit more definition in that area. Good show!

Super sharp Richard and beautiful background. Exposure is difficult with this bird, especially getting some detail in the eye- you have accomplished this.

The blacks and whites look great against that green background. Difficult exposure well captured.

    Well done!

I like the solid blurred background, and the slight tilt of the tern. There is one spot on the tail where the white is so bright you lose the detail, but the rest of the bird is nicely detailed.
