Gail, very nice, 285mm and almost full frame, a pretty close fly by!
Sharp, nice colors, very well done.

I like the bird and head turn with fresh blood. I might have spot cloned the errant very small white feathers behind the head .
The water color is steel gray and this may have been the true color on a partially cloudy day and if you juiced it up no one would notice ,but either way the image stands out very well.
You certainly did better than I do with my 100-400 which has never been a favorite because of zoom method.
PS: Only several yrs of experience and you are doing great.

Thanks for the kind words Chas and Dan. It is sometimes hard not to get discouraged when posting on BPN due to the extreme high quality of images here. However, if I am going to learn it means throwing myself into the fire and learning from the best! Chas- I picked up my first DSLR exactly 2 years ago and love it!

Real eye catching image, Gail. Love the remnants of his last meal on his beak, and I think you did a good job processing. You have no reason to get discouraged as your work is really enjoyable and your eagerness to improve is catchy!

Thanks Grace and Arash. The whites are 242 on the head Arash so you are right!! Very close to blown so that is why I attempted the linear burn,

Gail, really good DOF. liked the top-side view and very good head position.

Kickin' butt with the 100 - 400 here. I love the blood on the beak! Overall, just a great eagle photo. I don't know what a linear burn is but you seem to have done a good job with it. A logistic burn might be even better......just kidding. Beautiful work, Gail.

Don't ever get discouraged Gail, you are doing really well. Great work with the 100-400, it looks like the lighting conditions may have been challenging. Curious if this is near where you live or do you have to trek out to a special location. I'd like to make it out east one day and would like to find some eagles.

    Hi Art,
This area is about 15 minutes from my home! If you are ever in Cape Breton give me a shout! I love to show off our beautiful area. Lots of shorebirds too,
    Gail
