Photographed a couple of weeks ago on the North Shore of Massachusetts.

I thought I was going to get another opportunity to photograph mating but, in this case, the female gladly took the fish but then immediately flew off leaving the male quite unhappy.

Looking forward to your comments and critiques!

You sure did have fun with these LETE this summer. I like the story behind this capture. The male doesn't look too disappointed or maybe he is still shocked over the lack of appreciation and reciprocation?!

This is such a clean image, I think I would remove the shell. It distracts for me b/c it is so white in contrast to the sand and b/c it is the only one out there that it looks out of place.

    Thanks, Marina!

I considered removing the shell but it adds a sense of depth to the image that disappeared with it removed.
And since the rest of the image was so clean, I didn't think it was a real image killer, so I decided to leave it.
I did tone it down though

This picture sure tells a story Mike! Nicely captured at a low angle. I'm going to vote with Marina on the shell; I think it detracts from the image. The sense of depth conveyed by the OOF Tern flying away is sufficient IMO. Still a great image!

Without the story I wouldn't be crazy about this shot but with the story, it is excellent. I agree about the shell. Great exposure and POV,

Looks like the male is throwing his arms up and saying "Ahh man...not AGAIN!" You've had success photographing the butt side of these terns!! I agree the shell should go...
