You have a nice action shot here witih with a very different BG and nice pose. Would have loved to see this in softer light.

I like the eye contact and the prey. Light is a little strong, and the head could be in better focus. Also I would move the bird's head slightly to the left of center.

The colors of the BG really make this picture lovely. I like the action and how the bird is looking right at the viewer. The head looks good to this amateur's eye!

    Thanks for the comments.
This was taken at about 8 in the morning and the Osprey was flying at me into the sun which was behind me so I wouldn't call it harsh light,
but points well taken, as there are shadows on the bird from the angle. I don't know when else you could get light a whole lot better unless it was overcast.
I did sharpen the face in PP, because I think it is obviously important, but the focus was not off much,
I don't think it looks soft, or doesn't on the original or my monitor.
The wings obviously blurred, I find it hard to get the whole bird completely sharp in head on photos like this.
    I will keep shooting, thanks.

Nice image Dan! The straight-on pose is very cool. For some reason I like the comp as is...there is a bit of tension and sense of power created this way...maybe its just me... (Doug;s suggestion would work well too). I'd tone down the foot as it seems rather light.

    Hi Dan,
Great incoming pose and the snack is a plus. Great eye contact. I agree with Doug about the light, the quality of the light is certainly soft given the time of shooting but what is a bit problematic is the shadows on the body and the face, for a bird like osprey you want to minimize the shadows. I think it can still benefit from sharpening the head just a tad more.

    Good job! keep'em coming! :)
