A bit more work on this one... maybe 15-20 layers. Lab curves, glowing edges, Topaz simplify, various blends...

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Nice soft pastel look to this one, birds almost all nicely separated, background colors compliment the birds....well done Michael.
Only thing I might do is remove the dunlin bits of wings and bodies that aren't complete, on both sides, thats just IMO.

Hi Michael, really nice look - lovely colors and I love the birds and how they stand out so nicely. Very nice painterly effect, like a nicely saturated watercolor. I think Paul makes a good point about the margins. This is a nice place, I know it well!

This has a wonderful summer, happy feel to it. Nice colours and graphic effect. 15-20 layers? That's dedication.

Hi Michael; I love the soft, pastoral quality of this image; I agree with the comment that Paul made regarding the clips, particularly on the right side of the image..and, if it were mine, I'd clone out that bright yellow spot in just to the right of the center of the image...my eye is constantly drawn to it. Wonderful work!

    Paul, Kerry, Hilary, John,

Thanks much for the comments. I have to think about the partials, but the wing tips should be cloned.

Hilary, the layers just fly by ...

The jpeg compression messed the detail on the above but you'll get the idea.

The birds are in focus while the bg is blurred so glowing edges gets the outlines, invert to get dark lines on white, Topaz Clean to drop the detail from glowing edges and to sharpen up the lines. I use this layer to preserve the detailed outlines and blended back the color... With two Lab curves, keeping a preliminary or two... 5 layers in all (that's how they add up )...

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

    Hey Michael,
Great suggestions on the outer edge birds.....easy tweak! This has summer written all over it and the effects make it shine! Very nice tip too!

This has such a Caribbean feel to it - warmth, sunshine, the beach and lots of color. Nicely done. And thanks for the work flow. I'll want to study it.

Michael, this is great! I like the pastel, watercolor look, the 3D effect and the vertical lines in the bg. I'd consider evicting the partials on the left edge I think.
