Got this in Broome in North Western Australia a few days ago.
Had to use the x2 converter which I don't really like but this guy won't let me get close. Stopped down to improve sharpness.
Perch is a bit massive but I feel it works nicely in here - wonder what other think.
BG is not the sky but the ocean.

Cropped for composition - about 75% of full frame

The bird has the most desired pose (looking back over the shoulder) and has nice colours. I also like the perch.
I was told that 2x works fairly well on 300/500/600. I rarely use it, but it does work fairly well as your picture demonstrates it.

Gorgeous bird, lovely colors, excellent detail, and interesting perch!

I think I'd like to see a bit more room at the bottom, top, and right.

Another Kingfisher I havent seen before. Cool pose, and I do like the colours on him. Typical KF beak, and the little guy is nice and sharp. I dont mind the size of the perch, but I have to say it does look like a fossilized skull.

Stuart took the words right out of my mouth-the rock looks like a skull. Very cool. I like the look back pose. nice light.

excellent Ofer I love the details and inclusion of the full perch. It serves as a reference for size to the eye! fantastic.

What a cute little fella! The perch has excellent qualities to it despite its' size. I wouldn't mind a crop below to eliminate the blue space below it, but that is quite subjective. I do see the skull reference!!

The perch is dramatic (I didn't see the skull until I read other comments, but it is there). And what a pretty bird. Nicely done!

As good a picture as any I have seen of this species Ofer.
For such a common bird it is surprisingly poorly documented.
The rockshelf perch, quality of light & over the shoulder look make for an appealing image.
Are there many overwintering waders there ATM?

    Thanks for your comments guys!
Karl, not that many waders in Broome right now - I guess the numbers will increase when they start returning from Asia around late Aug - Sep.
    Cheers.

Very cool little KF and a wicked perch! (The perch alone is a conversation piece)

Glad you were able to capture him. Great job using the 2x
