    Default Pretty Polly

    Osprey portrait.
A sort of test, as I have never used the BPN upload system.
Seeing if I get a thumbnail.
I do like the photo, although it is in the shadow a bit, should have lightened the face.
    The thumbnail worked.

Hi Dan, killer pose and look! Only wish that there was light on the bird's face and neck. I don't know what camera you use, but a good flash with Better Beamer would have put this image in another league. I would crop about half the space on the right, as I don't think you need it there. Sure wish there was some detail in the wings as the shadow areas have none. That said, I would be happy to have this one in my collection.

Good comments by Kerry. A little fill flash would have been great. Maybe a little bit of a crop from both sides and if you could bring out the color of those eyes a little that would bring this up a notch. Nice one Dan!

    Dan,

What was the kit used, love the 600MM. Kerry hit the hight points, light around the eyes. Denise once told me that proper lighting and a clean eye makes every bird look good. I really like the pose, sometimes the head-on shot is not as attractive,..this is a real regal pose. Looks like he was checking you out, what was your distance to the subject.

    Thanks for the comments.
    Jeff, I use a D7000 W/ 300 f2.8 w/ 2X.
The osprey was on the top of a tall tree, maybe 50 yards, but I was shooting up, I am surprised it looks as
    good as it did.
I should have cropped a bit from the right and lightened the face, however I did sort of just grab
this photo to upload on the BPN system as I have not used it before as a test photo.
I love these birds, my favorite raptor by far.

Thanks for the response, 150 feet is a way but the 600MM helped - nice job. When a shot opportunity like this comes along one must take it and go from there. What a great day to experience things like this. Can I assume there is a lake nearby.
