Default Thinking about going (back) to Mac...

First, a little history: I started working with computers and computer graphics in 1984 on DEC mainframes. In the eary 90's, I transitioned to Mac's and was Mac only until about 1995 when I needed to learn Wondows and the PC because of my job as a service bureau production manager. Due to a employer change, I pretty much became an all Windows guy in 2002 and have been that way since. But I've been out of that industry for a while now, and I think I'm ready to go back to Mac permanently.

I'm considering the purchase of a 27" iMac, and more than likely, the 3.1 GHz machine with 8GB of RAM and a 1 TB internal drive. I have a couple of questions for the Mac folks:
Is the standard Radeon card adequate for digital photography or do I need to bump it up?
Can the monitor be color-calibrated or does it need to be?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Standard card will work fine for imaging. Yes, you can calibrate the monitor. I highly recommend Color Eyes w/ DTP94, I have been using it for years.

    Lou -

Actually, until 1999, I had a PDP 11 console in the garage... along with a Genigraphics PS-4000 film recorder with a really nice Forox head.... So, to answer you5 question, nope... not interested in a MicroVax !

You might consider arranging to put it on a reef somewhere off the Jersey shore... I understand that where a lot of that early gear resides, creating homes for fish!

I would recommend 16 GB RAM.
Buy from Apple with minimal memory and get the memory from OWC

Apple Aperture 3 is very good for processing images. With Aperture I do not even use Photoshop.
$79 at the Apple App Store is a bargain
Canon Digital Photo Professional also works quite well for RAW conversion of Canon files.
