Cropped to 4mp, toned down the perch and unsharp mask (perhaps too much).
I suppose I should have leveled the top of the post and eliminated the light area upper right.

Very nice image. Very sharp, good light and nice HA. Also the BG is lovely. I think you are too hard on yourself! I agree about leveling the perch

Welcome, this is much better than my first post. Directions for posting size are at the top of the forum. Feel free to ask additional questions in this regard too.

Lot's to like here, great bird, head angle is strong and the eye is bright and clean. Techs are strong too, nice feather detail, fast shutter good standard aperture. The composition could use some tweaks IMO. Leveling and it is a bit tight for me. These are easy to adjust, what post production software do you use. In Photoshop use ruler to level and simply adjust crop as needed.

I have opened the crop up a bit, perhaps not enough as I lost some in leveling.

I usually convert to TIFF using the software that came with the camera then I make final adjustments and convert to Jpeg using Serif PhotoPlus X4, adjustments might be a little different than PS.

I like it, the level bottom makes a big difference, I like more room and might take more of the bottom,..but that's me.

This is a very nice first post, or even a 5,000th post. You got great results with your equipment, which really brings home the notion that it is more about the photographer than the gear. I use the 400mm f/5.6 all the time and love the images it produces. You have excellent exposure, nice detail (not too much sharpening at all to my eye), excellent background and good pose. Cute bird, I look forward to more.

Nice capture of female especially since most of us concentrate on the male. It is not too tight for me but I love clean species shots. The top of the post may not have been level, but people become concerned when it is not level on the image, but easily changed.
