This guy gave me only a few seconds and off he went! I will probbaly never encounter this falcon again so I feel lucky to have gotten this image of such a beauty.

You can tell this is "his" spot from the feather remnants in the tree.

I removed some sticks from his buttocks

Beautiful bird and sharp all over. Light is pretty harsh. Don't really like looking up from underneath at his bud (with the shadows), but you did not have that much choice I guess. Might try to get some more detail in the eye.

Lovely IQ, I suppose moving more to the right would have put that branch in the way. Just enough head turn. Nice colors!

I love the light on his face and the great head turn. That's cool that the feathers are entangled in the branches. Congratulaions on getting the shot.

One might ask for a less fussy perch but this is the bird's habitat so it is easy to be forgiving (for me at any rate). I have no problem with the angle. In reference to the post above I am not sure how you can bring detail into a black eye? I'm guess this is how the bird appears. A fine image IMHO.

A beautiful shot Noelle. Love the head turn and I am OK with the angle of the shot. I would love to see this bird IRL. Tack sharp and I love the feathers in the tree.

    Thanks Kaustubh,

After doing a little research on this bird I thought maybe this would interest you and others on the forum.

Since the early 1900s the Aplomado has become increasingly scarce in its northern range with the last known pair nesting in New Mexico in the early 1950s. This decline is probably due to the deterioration of the falcon’s habitat due to changes in land use and pesticides. In 1993, The Peregrine Fund started reintroducing captive-bred Aplomado Falcons into southern Texas.
