Default Purple Martin IV - Last one for now!

Here's my last Purple MArtin post for now. It was very hot when I photographed them on this day, and most of them had their bills agape like this non-stop - seemingly a form of panting to try to get cooler. It did make for interesting flight images as it looks like they were calling midflight.

P.S. My oldest son's soccer (or football for those outside North America) has taken up most of my time the last few days...I'll get to the critiquing soon!

Canon 7D + 100-400L @320mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light, handheld, cropped for composition (about 80% FF). This one was banded - cloned that out.

Exposure and focus are spot on. Under wing details and the open bill makes this image.

Great flight image. Love the fanned tail and open beak. Great work capturing him at 80% FF (and all the pixels that go with that). Was he hovering before landing?

Spectacular. At 320mm yet. Is this a female or an immature (or both). Love the pose, wing position, and open bill.

Nice underwing exp. I like the open beak and what looks like harsh light has been well handled. Well done just getting this guy in flight!

Daniel, simply superb. loved the fanned tail and good that the SS was enough. also liked the subtle variation in the BG. Well done as always.

Bill, with a strongish wind slowing it down considerably this individual was in a last second mid-air brake just before landing on the Purple Martin "condo".

Artie, I believe this is an adult female as all the young ones were still in the condo being fed by the parents. There were a few "second year" males out and about, but they had some hints of blue on the neck and throat.

By far my favorite of the series. This one is just great! Perfect exposure, pose, and sharpness.

    Well done!
