I saw this Barn Owl last Friday whilst walking Barney but I did not have my camera with me as the light was poor. On Saturday morning we returned armed with 500mm and 1.4TC. Half the fun in getting any image is trying to predict which route the owl will take, well I got lucky I guess. I would have liked of course to have been closer but I am not complaining. On Sunday I went out again and made the right prediction but I lost patience and assumed he had headed of somewhere else, had I waited another minute he would have flown straight toward me and I would have got the frame filler. There will always be a next time... and in the meantime I got a young whitethroat but I was so close I didn't need the 1.4TC - still I got the shot I didn't want to risk losing him whilst removing the TC.

    All C & C welcome.

Jonathan, I like the pano crop and the dark BG. Catch always a plus. pity about the light angle though. shadows are hurting this nice image. Better luck next time with that. The owl can go a bit brighter IMO.

Nice catch, Jonathan. I don't especially mind the lighting as it sets the time of day at first or last light -- appropriate enough for a nocturnal animal. The prey is a nice touch.

I like the prey in the talons. It also has a nice head turn. I would love to see the eyes, but hey, I don't have any owl pictures. I would keep it.

The dark sky really makes this pop Jonathan! I do wish there was more of that sweet light falling on the owl's face, though
