I liked the peaceful look of this chick and decided to stay back a little and allow it to rest comfortably.
This type of image may not appeal to many since it isn't filling the frame but I liked it and hope that some others will too.

I love the composition Denise! I really like the small chick in the big desert/sandy beach habitat. If anything I would boost the contrast a tiny bit more especially in the blacks as it looks a tiny bit flat. Otherwise very well done!

Thanks guys, Ofer, I think it looks good but I guess I was going for a softer look but your adjustments work nicely with the feel I wanted for the image. I think I will settle for somewhere in between, thank you for taking the time to repost. Much appreciated.

Denise, the soft bg and peaceful look of the chick give the OP a dreamy look. I love it.

Wonderful image Denise! Tells a story for me

I like the "vast landscape" feel this image has. Makes you think he is a solitary little guy in a very big world.

Even his expression says "I'm all alone".

The soft gradation of the BG is killer!

Beautiful composition, Denise. Hard to decide between the 2 posts. To me, the OP says it is a big world out there with a young chick. The 2 post says I'm a young chick and it is a big world out there. Just a bit of difference between perspective.

Very nice and good idea re space for something different. I like Ofer's repost as it pops a touch more. Lovely pastel shades. Very nice thinking and execution!

The first post looks better to me. I like the softness of the picture and BG colors. Good exposure.

I love this! The comp really makes it special for me. Super colours too and great contrast between the subject and it's environment.

    Superbly done!

Very effective image. Either post works but, for me, the OP is most consistant with crop/feel/color/story. strictly a matter of preferance I guess.

I think you pulled off exactly what you were after in the OP.

    Very nice Denise.

Hey Denise, picture perfect. Love the soft feel to this, together with the placement of the chick. Superb two tone BG. Well captured.

Denise, loved this one. little guy in big world...well done on all the space and placement of the subject....so important in this sort of image. the dreamy feel is superb. I like both versions. I like how Ofer's repost brings out more sand texture.

So if photography is a craft and not an art, then why so much discussion here between the original and the repost? I feel that photography is an art form and Denise has created an image with expression. This image has evoked thought and emotion, Denise, and it is lovely. In addition, I feel as if you displayed exceptional ethics in not getting close to this little one in the heat and causing him to use up energy getting away from you. Lovely all around. I hope you cherish it.

I think both original and re post look great. Tired of frame filling setups!

Terrific shot Denise, it is often said "keep it simple" - I think this is a wonderful example in composition. I also really like the soft colours and mood created - top shot!

I love the soft, fluffy ,little bird big world feel of this. I have no suggestions and would also probably go halfway to the repost.
