Some of our commonest winter gulls are "white-wings"- the Glaucous and Iceland Gulls of Arctic Canada and Greenland. Iceland Gulls come in several varieties that have sometimes been considered species unto themselves. Iceland Gulls showing darker grey in the wingtips like this one are called Kumlien's Gulls. This image was created today on the Petitcodiac River, Moncton, New Brunswick. As spring progresses so these birds will move north to breed. The BG is the classic red Fundy mud.

    40D, 100-400mm @ 400mm, 1/2000s, F8. ISO 640, 15% crop for comp, boosted saturation

Different angle and I like it, the soft red BG is a plus for me. BG info is great, thanks for that.

Wish is was a few more degrees to the camera. The BG is a little noisy, but that can easily be cleared up in 2 sec.

I love that background. You've made a beautiful and unusual image of a common bird.

John alerted me that this is quite a rare type of gull. His background and timing showcased this beautiful and unusual bird.
