A not-uncommon image of a mallard hen (I think) preening, but I thought her foot raised out of the mud helped make the pose interesting. 50% crop.

Lovely pose, nice detail on the raised foot and nice and sharp. I see evidence of cloning along the right edge, by the brownish smudge...otherwise, very nice

Thanks, Carole, and you have a sharp eye. I did use the Spot Removal tool in LR to hide the small tip of another duck's tail in the image; I didn't think it showed.

Hello Wendell, I'm a sucker for preening images! I like this pose and the raised foot is definitely a bonus. The duck seems a little centered to me, and I would prefer to see the negative space on the right. Good one!

Well, I couldn't resist working on this one a bit. Here is my take on the image - a little more room on the right, less on the left, and some color balance to remove a slight magenta cast. I think this is one of this year's model mallards, not much color in the speculum yet.

Wendell- It does look like a duckling and a handsome one at that! Love the fluffiness of the head. I like Kerry's repost. With the bird's head pointing backwards I am having trouble deciding where to put more space. In the end I had to experiment myself and ended up more or less centring the subject. I added some space to the top because everything looked tight, and ran another round of Smart sharping at 100%, 0.3.

I like this post best of all bc it is brighter and the fill light accentuates the details. It is a sweet duck and I also like the raised foot.

wendell, loks of good advise here, I like the OP best, but all are compelling. Once again you capture a great day in the life moment. I too am a sucker for preening - good action and nice one leg balance. Great effort getting the low angle - this makes the picture very strong IMO - well done my friend.

Techs look good, are the whites in check.

Wendell, this is a very cute image!

John's re-post is very nice as I also felt the image needed sharpening.

    Hey Wendell,
Great advice above. Remember....sometimes it's the small things that take the image up a notch or two. None of the changes made are what I would consider large or extreme.....so that is testament to an excellent in camera capture that a few tweaks will make shine! Very nicely done!
